SBME 3MT Heat 2026

February 23 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm PST

Location: Life Sciences Building (LSB), LSC 1001

The SBME 3 Minute Thesis Heat is back! Join us to share ideas, compete, and win prizes!

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is an internationally recognized competition where thesis based graduate students present their research—and its broader impact—in three minutes or less. This event helps students strengthen their communication and presentation skills while highlighting the significance of their scholarly or creative work. Canada’s first 3MT competition was hosted at the University of British Columbia in 2011, followed by the first national competition in 2014. Today, universities and research institutes across the country host annual 3MT events.

Winners advance through a tiered system of competitions:
• Regional competitions: Western, Ontario, or Eastern
• National 3MT Showcase
• North American 3MT Showcase

The top two national finalists move on to the North American 3MT Showcase, hosted annually by the Council for Graduate Schools (CGS). For 2026, the showcase will take place in Los Angeles, CA, in early December.

Prizes:

• First Place: $500
• Second Place: $300
• Third Place: $200

Ready to share your 80,000 word thesis in just 3 minutes?
