General Information
At the heart of our interdisciplinary programs is a unique blend of life sciences, engineering and design techniques and innovative technologies that students apply to the current and future challenges of health and healthcare. We have a variety of programs – including undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral and welcome both domestic and international students to apply to our programs. Undergraduate
Prospective students must apply through the UBC Engineering Undergraduate Admissions page for the first year. At the end of first year, engineering students are asked to submit an online Program Preference Form indicating the departments in which they are most interested. Program placement is based on academic performance and is very competitive. Our biomedical engineering undergraduate program is composed of dedicated classes in 2nd through 4th year as well as specialized courses in first year accessed through the Pre-Biomedical Engineering Timetable. Master of Applied Science
The Master of Applied Science (MASc) in Biomedical Engineering is a 2-year research-based program. The program trains students in the fundamentals of Biomedical Engineering and provides an extended research experience.
Doctor of Philosophy
The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biomedical Engineering program offers students an opportunity to work at the highest level of research. Students are expected to complete their candidacy examination within 18 months and complete doctoral dissertation research within three to four years.
Master of Engineering
The Master of Engineering (MEng) in Biomedical Engineering is a 12-16 month program aimed at students who wish to enhance their professional skills in biomedical engineering. Students engage in a combination of course work and internship or co-op work experience.
