STAFF

There is currently a Computational Technician position available in the Shakiba Lab at the School of Biomedical Engineering. The primary responsibility of the candidate will be, based on available scRNA data, to develop a computational model describing the self-organization process of precursor cells into Blood Vessel Organoids capillary networks. There is currently a Program and Advising Coordinator position available at the School of Biomedical Engineering. Under minimal direction, this position coordinates student support systems and is responsible for project execution, advising, administrative, and coordination functions related to both graduate and undergraduate students, programs, and streams within SBME. FACULTY

We are currently hiring for the position of Associate Professor (tenure) or Professor (tenure) Sir Magdi Yacoub Professorship in Tissue Regeneration at UBC at SBME UBC. As the holder of the Sir Magdi Yacoub Professorship in Tissue Regeneration, the successful candidate will support tissue regeneration and research, training, and education at the University by applying a deep understanding of the fundamentals of cell-material interactions and exploring how materials influence and guide cellular behaviour, organization and function on synthetic matrices. The School of Biomedical Engineering in partnership with the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health is currently hiring an Assistant or Associate Professor in Molecular and Cellular Neuro Bioengineering. Research areas of particular interest include: cellular and molecular engineering approaches to neurological disorders; bioengineering neural cell fate control, brain integration or function; engineering cellular or molecular systems that recapitulate neural function; strategies to manipulate neural cellular behaviour at the molecular level, or related areas. A focus on the development of novel bioengineering approaches and technologies to modulate the neural-immune axis and applications to diseases such as Multiple sclerosis (MS) and other diseases with a neural-immune axis would be an asset.

Become an Associate Member

Associate Membership in the School of Biomedical Engineering is an unofficial position given to a faculty member outside of the school when there is a need to have a formal arrangement to participate in teaching, research and service. This is not a joint appointment. To request membership please see here for more instructions: Associate Membership Application. Each application will be reviewed by the School’s leadership team.

Notes on applying for Associate Membership

The term for Associate membership is a maximum of 3 years. For renewal, a new application package must be submitted. It is expected that each member participate in at least one teaching and/or service activity (i.e. serve on a SBME committee, other than graduate supervisory committees). This activity must be clearly outlined in the letter of intent.

Teaching and Committees

Teaching activities fall under our undergraduate and graduate curriculum umbrellas. Note that our students do take courses in other departments. SBME-specific courses are coded as BMEG courses.
