Join us for interactive displays, tours and to learn more about how SBME is revolutionizing the future of healthcare through new treatments and technologies. All are welcome.
About the New SBME Building
Our new, five-story building provides 100,000+ square feet of space where biomedical engineering students and faculty can gather without technological or scientific boundary. It features state-of-the-art classrooms and learning spaces on the lower floors, with research labs and spaces on the upper floors. The building has large open spaces for people to mingle and collaborate, as well as a large biodevice foundry and cleanroom, student makerspaces and design studios, core facilities, 15+ research labs and more.
The Conconi Family Foundation Biodevice Foundry
The Conconi Family Foundation Biodevice Foundry at UBC is a shared use core facility that supports cutting-edge life sciences research.
The Biodevice Foundry is equipped with over 30 instruments in a cleanroom environment for design, fabrication and characterization of microdevices. Access to the foundry and to all instrumentation is available to qualified users from UBC, other education institutions, or industry, and we welcome researchers from all disciplines wishing to explore uses of the facility.
The Jim McEwen Zone for Innovators, Creators and Entrepreneurs
The Jim McEwen Zone for Innovators, Creators and Entrepreneurs is a dedicated prototyping hub for SBME undergraduate students enrolled in design courses. Located in rooms 1009 and 1011 of the School of Biomedical Engineering, these makerspaces offer a range of additive and subtractive prototyping tools, along with basic electronic components and testing equipment such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, and soldering tools.
SBME Research Labs
Our research labs provide faculty and students the space to advance knowledge in disease detection, drug delivery, injury prevention to improve health outcomes for patients with faster and more precise technologies and diagnostic systems
