What is Capstone?
The final graduating requirement for UBC’s biomedical engineering students is the capstone design project. The projects challenge students to apply the knowledge and skills they have learned throughout their degree to real world problems.
Students work in small teams under the close supervision of a faculty advisor and, when possible, are mentored by a professional engineer who is active in industry. Students build models of their designs and if funds are available, a working prototype for the client.
Students must register for BMEG 457 to take part.
BMEG 457 | Capstone Design Projects
This eight-month capstone design course features teams of four to five students and is client-focused (i.e. organizations sponsor the projects). Students are expected to put in approximately eight hours per week (per student) on the project. This includes working with their team, attending relevant lectures and workshops, and meeting with their faculty mentors and client sponsors.
