Congratulations to Dr. Govind Kaigala, Director of Partnerships and Community Engagement at the School of Biomedical Engineering, and Senior Scientist at the Vancouver Prostate Centre for being awarded UBC Killam Accelerator Research Fellowship through UBC’s 2024 Faculty Research Awards. The award recognizes research excellence and scholarly achievements of faculty from across all disciplines and supports researchers early in their academic careers to launch the next stage of their careers.

Dr. Kaigala’s research involves engineering analytical tools to decipher heterogeneity and spatio-temporal processes in biological systems with a particular emphasis on cancers.

“I am thrilled to receive this recognition that will provide our lab the opportunity to develop a range of biodevices to precisely profile and model heterogenous tumors and their response to treatment” comments Dr. Kaigala.

He has been instrumental in the creation of the Conconi Family Biodevice Foundry in the School of Biomedical Engineering. The foundry is a state-of-the-art facility for designing, prototyping, fabricating and testing biodevices that can help accelerate biomedical innovation.

The Office of the VP, Research and Innovation will host a reception on June 5, 2025 to acknowledge the achievements of all of the recipients of the 2024 Faculty Research Awards.
