We are proud to share that Dr. Jenna Usprech has been awarded the Killam Teaching Prize, a prestigious recognition presented to faculty members for excellence in teaching.
Dr. Usprech has been a cornerstone of the School of Biomedical Engineering for the past six years, playing an instrumental role in shaping and developing the School’s curriculum. Her teaching spans a wide range of subjects, from biomedical design and ethics to science communication.
“Receiving this award is deeply meaningful because it reflects the positive impact I’ve been able to have with my teaching on students, colleagues, and the School of Biomedical Engineering. It’s validating to know that the care and effort I put into my teaching has been recognized in this way,” says Dr. Usprech.
Her passion for education shines through in the classroom, where she encourages students to think critically and broadly—equipping them with practical lessons that extend well beyond their degrees. “I find it satisfying to observe students in the transition from a state of confusion to a state of understanding, when a concept finally clicks in place for them.”
Dr. Usprech’s dedication reflects the heart of biomedical engineering itself: “Biomedical engineering is so exciting because it’s about finding solutions to problems that can have a direct, positive impact on human health.” Fitting words, as Dr. Usprech’s teaching continues to make a profound and lasting impact on her students and the future of biomedical engineering.
