Teaching Demonstration on topics including 3D printing, biomanufacturing, and biomaterials with Dr. Daniel Aguilar Hidalgo

SBME Research Seminar: The RNA folding problem remains open – Dr. Rhiju Das

The discovery and design of biologically important RNA molecules has lagged behind proteins, in part due to the general difficulty of three-dimensional RNA structural characterization. What are the prospects for an ‘AlphaFold moment’ for RNA? I’ll describe some recent progress in modeling RNA structure from old-fashioned and new machine learning, cryoelectron microscopy, and current and upcoming internet-scale competitions hosted on the Eterna, Kaggle, and CASP platforms.

Teaching Demonstration on topics including 3D printing, biomanufacturing, and biomaterials with Dr. Daniel Aguilar Hidalgo

May 5 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm PDT

Please join us for the hybrid teaching demonstration by Dr. Daniel Aguilar Hidalgo. Daniel Aguilar-Hidalgo is a Research Associate in the School of Biomedical Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC), where they lead interdisciplinary research and teaching initiatives. They earned a PhD in Systems Biology from the University of Seville and completed postdoctoral work in quantitative developmental biology and tissue self-organization at the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems. At UBC, Daniel has driven curriculum renewal by integrating systems thinking, inclusive assessment, and learner-centered strategies. Their educational leadership emphasizes equity-focused innovation, neurodivergent inclusion, and the use of GenAI tools to enhance student engagement in complex STEM learning environments.
