Transforming Healthcare

Welcome to UBC’s School of Biomedical Engineering

Designed as a blueprint for the future of medicine, we are built on a foundation of collaborative research and teaching excellence with the vision to transform patient health and healthcare in Canada and around the world. Established in 2017 as a partnership between the Faculties of Applied Science and Medicine, we are UBC’s first inter-faculty school.

A Unique Curriculum

At the heart of our interdisciplinary programs is a unique blend of life sciences, engineering and design techniques and cutting-edge technologies that students apply to the current and future challenges of health and healthcare.

Cutting-Edge Research

SBME Research tackles health and healthcare challenges across scales from the molecular to the macro level of human physiology. With advances in regenerative medicine, imaging, AI, cellular engineering and more, we no longer have to engineer around biology, but with it.

Partnering For Impact

The key to changing health and healthcare for everyone lies in a collective, coordinated and convergent effort. We create paths to collaboration through partnerships with industry, government, academia, not-for-profits, research institutes and beyond.
