Biography:

Matthias Görges co-leads the Pediatric Anesthesia Research Team and the Digital Health Innovation Lab at BC Children's Hospital Research Institute. He received his MSc in Biomedical Engineering from the Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften Hamburg, Germany, and his Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, USA. Subsequently, he completed a post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of British Columbia, where he is currently an Associate Professor (Partner) in the Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology, & Therapeutics. Matthias undertakes trans-disciplinary research with a team of engineers, computer scientists, and health care providers, focusing on developing and applying new technologies, primarily in pediatric anesthesia and intensive care.

RESEARCH EXCELLENCE:

Our research, read by clinicians, scientists, and engineers, drives innovation in computer science, statistics, and engineering. For instance, we improved alarm performance in medical intensive care units, developed a pediatric risk score for sepsis mortality, designed an intelligent monitoring device for ICU safety, identified key components for total intravenous anesthesia, and provided guidance on managing missing data in clinical registry analyses.
