The University of British Columbia’s School of Biomedical Engineering (SBME) is proud to celebrate the recognition of three members of its community through the Stem Cell Network’s (SCN) 25 for 25 Silver Anniversary Awards, announced today as part of SCN’s 25th anniversary celebrations.

The national awards recognize outstanding individuals and organizations whose contributions have helped shape Canada’s regenerative medicine ecosystem through scientific leadership, mentorship, innovation, and community impact.

Among this year’s honourees are:

  • Dr. Peter Zandstra, Professor at SBME, recipient of the Talent Builder Award, recognizing his significant contributions to training and mentoring the next generation of regenerative medicine professionals.
  • Dr. Nika Shakiba, Assistant Professor at SBME, recipient of the Rising Star Award, celebrating exceptional early-career leadership and innovation in regenerative medicine research.
  • Dr. Fabio Rossi, Professor at SBME and the Department of Medical Genetics, recipient of the SCN Champion Award, recognizing sustained contributions to advancing SCN’s mission and Canada’s regenerative medicine community.

The awards highlight the strength of UBC SBME’s contributions to regenerative medicine research, education, and translation, and reinforce the School’s commitment to advancing biomedical innovation that improves health outcomes for patients and communities.
